I feel like one issue here is, using nomadic and tribal interchangeably. Tribe is a rather broad classification of people who follow a certain lifestyle. Nomad is one of those said lifestyle.
We don't know if Brahman, or Adi Nivasi were both living relatively same life style. Thus the only thing dividing both communities would be samskara practices as well as bloodline.
Perhaps Brahmans having lived alongside the Tribes for so long simply adapted to a lot of their practices over time. This is strictly a guess in this case.

I doubt all that is true given he was a prominent figure in epic of Mahabharata as well. The way his image has been radicalised is definitely quite unfortunate. However periodic change is usually expected in all community, the Brahman Varna community being no exception.
