Rome in it's decline phase saw barbarian Germanic tribes migrate in (sometimes they came in as slaves) and assimilate into Roman society. A few centuries later, Germanics had even bubbled up into the upper layer of Roman society (or whatever was left of it).

They are the main reason Rome fell. Germanics literally killed/enslaved the upper class men and married the upper class women, and directly wrested control of what remained of Rome.
The actual truth we just dont know whether it is migration or invasion for sure because it happened so long ago. But considering elite dominance, spread of indo aryan languages, the phenotype differences between the upper and lower (indian)s, sanskritization, etc, it is quite obvious there was some level of invasion and conquest.
In my opinion, one of the first waves targeting some place in pakistan would almost certainly have been an invasion and led to the rapid spread of aryan culture in India. They likely proceeded to settle and then mix with the natives throughout the indo gangetic plains. They then would have used the fertile plains to grow in population, build civilization (mahajanapadas) and any further steppe invaders were likely assimilated
