Today I learned about 55 Cancri e, a super-Earth about 40 light-years away
~2× Earth’s size, ~8× the mass
it orbits insanely close to its star
one full year = 18 hours
almost certainly tidally locked
surface temps are extreme
likely magma oceans, not continents
based on its density and formation around a metal-rich star
it’s carbon-rich under massive pressure, carbon →diamond
so parts of its interior may literally be diamond
atmosphere could be vaporized rock
which is unhinged but very on-brand for space
p.s- WISH I COULD MINE THEREE !
